Field Experience
Based in the Vresse-sur-Semois region, we have paddled the Ardennes rivers (Semois, Lesse, Ourthe) for many years. For us kayaking is more than a hobby: it is a constant study of nature. Our founder, Quentin Deligneis an expert in river hydrology. He learned to read currents, to anticipate floods and to grasp how directly the weather affects kayakers' safety. That close knowledge of the Ardennes valleys is what lets us give reliable advice, grounded in what actually happens on the water.
Safety & Algorithmic Expertise
Recreational boating can turn dangerous fast when river signals are ignored. Our main aim is to guarantee the absolute safety of everyone who paddles. We combine practical experience with nautical safety standards to issue strict recommendations on equipment (for example the 5mm neoprene wetsuit that is mandatory on cold days), so as to prevent serious risks such as cold shock response or hypothermia.
The Kayak Belgique Algorithm
Precise, centralised information was missing, so we developed a custom hydrological API (v3.0.0). Every 15 minutes the system analyses official data from the Public Service of Wallonia (ODWB) in real time, which keeps everything fully transparent.
Exclusive Comfort Index
We did not stop at flow rate (m³/s): we also built an algorithm that calculates a Difficulty Score and a Comfort Index which takes water temperature, windchill and the actual water level into account.
