Exceptional Reopening: The Lesse is Back!
The whole community welcomed this news with great relief Dinant and Houyet region: Kayaking on the Lesse is officially reopened. Paddling had been impossible since July 9. The water level has finally risen high enough again today.
🌊 1. Hydrological Analysis: Ban since July 9
The kayaking ban on the Lesse lasted exceptionally long. The Semois and Amblève also suffered from this drought. At Gendron, the flow rate fell below 1.5 m³/s, and all navigation was stopped to protect the riverbed and the fish.
📊 2. Current Water Level: Green Flag
After the recent rainfall, the flow rate now stands at 2.23 m³/s. Conditions are therefore ideal (Green Flag) for everyone, families in particular.
✅ Only the 12km Route is Open
Exclusively the short route starting from Gendron (12 km) is open and safe for kayaking. For now, the long route from Houyet stays closed.
- Children from 5 years old are allowed if accompanied by an adult.
